So I've been doing a lot of family portrait sessions lately, not that I am complaining. It's actually been lots of fun. Each and every sessions brings its own new challenges which adds to the fun...

I met a real cowboy today...

I met a cowboy today, a true american hero. This man has had a 40 plus year career in law enforcement. He is an old school real man, no bullshit, you get what you see.

What ever happened to people like this? There are so few left.. Anyway, I was lucky enough to get to take some photos of him today. It was a real honor.

Pinup Girl Round Two and a whole lot more!

Holy crap what a busy weekend of shooting! I got a call from a friend Friday night asking me to help him out with a group shoot on Saturday. I had a portrait session Sunday and a ton of images I still need to work on from the 2nd pinup session (image displayed). 

The Saturday shoot was rough. I only brought one light and I didn't have "a place to shoot". I was trying to make the best of it. Some of the models were OK and others were very green! I am still trying to get to those images, but for the most part I am not happy with the them as usual... I do think there are some that can be worked with. They are not typical portraits but they'll be cool when I finished the post processing.

The portrait session this morning was kinda funny. I showed up at the site and there were four other photoG's working. It was kinda interesting watching them work. I am not happy with those photo either. I know, no big surprise...

I still have to finish working on the photos from the pinup session. I think there are some good ones in the bunch. The model in the 1st session was new. She didn't know what to expect. In the second session she was thinking about modeling and it showed. She still did a good job! I can't wait to show the finished product.

NIK Sliver Efex Pro

I did a photo shoot of two beautiful twin babies a few weeks ago and I thought they would be the pergect test for the NIK's Silver Efex Pro plugin . It allows you to emulate specific film types. Lots a great features. The only down side I see is that it is expensive. 

I'll still buy it... 

Try it there is a 15 day demo. That brings me to another point 15 days? What happened to the good old days of 30 day demos? Really, does it cost the company that much for a 30 day demo? I don't think so.

If you are looking for something else to do you should check out this link. It's pack of Shiba puppies. There is something like 20,000 plus people watching this at any given time.... Crazy but fun to watch when you are having a stressful day. It'll make you smile.

The Golden Hanger Gala

Last night I had a chance to shoot the Golden Hanger Gala. It was a great fashion event put on by Fashion Careers College that benefited the Make a Wish Foundation.

It was a great event with some amazing designers and local celebrities.  Unfortunately my flash died. Yep, died halfway through the night. Crap...

Another photo shoot another failure?

Leading in from my post yesterday about how grateful I am to have so much support. Support isn't a substitute for talent... And, I think talent is eluding me lately. I tried to establish the intent of the shoot; a bebe style outfit for a fashion magazine add. 

One thing that I am definitely going to do before any shoot is create a shoot list and use it. About 200 frames into the shoot I just lost focus. What do I shoot next? Not good...

I don't know that I hate the photos but I don't love them. I'll post a link to some of the images over the next few days.

You ever take someone for granted?

I do...

I was going through some photos from a shoot today and I came to the sudden realization. My brother has been driving over 45 miles each way to help me with these shoots. His help ranges from picking stuff up or slapping me in the face and telling me I am going completely in the wrong direction with the shoot.

And to boot, my wife puts up with me spending so much time working on these projects.

I am really lucky to have people in my life that support me.

Pinup Girl

Another project that I am working on. This is the 1st time I've shot pinup, and I am pleasantly surprised with the images. 

I am working with her to create a calendar for her husband who is stationed in Iraq. So far we've shot 6 of the 12 months. I think he'll be really happy; or something else ;-), when he sees the finish product.

Work in progress

I've been struggling with something lately. I've heard that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results. I also believe you keep trying until you get is right... Are these ideas the same? Is the persistence of perfection insane? I'll need to pounder this some more.

I was working on a fashion shoot for a class and it turned into an epic failure, but I will try again and again till I get it right. I guess I am just insane...

The Loft 10 Year Anniversary

Last night I was shooting an event at the Loft Salon in Escondido. It was a fantastic event with a great turnout. Its no wonder The Loft Salon has been around 10 years. 

The was some studio photography that was done for the event by another very talented photographer in Escondido by the name of Alex (I'll have to look up her last name again). Her photography was well done! It's inspiring me to get into the studio. There will be more to come in regards to that... Here is a link to the images.

A project I've been working on

I lost my drive...

Ok, so today I was working on some photos and my primary storage drive failed. OMG!!! I got it running again and I had to move the photos somewhere. So I went out a bought a Drobo. I 've coping files for around 5 hours and it says I have another 8 hours till its done. So far so good. Go Drobo! Always back up your stuff or Drobo it :-)

Another new old toy...

I knew they stoped making film for polaroid camera but when I was
looking on eBay for some I was amazed at what people are getting for
polaroid 600 film... I'll have to use the frames sparingly. Kinda like
the sponge...

Moving my BLOG

Yep, you heard right I am moving PhotoBadAssery.com to blogger. Blogger allows me a post updates from my iPhone. Which is very helpful some time thoughts escape me before I get in front of my Mac at home. Now I don't have to wait. I am also updating my website. More to come soon!!!

How is it that my wife ends up with an iPhone before me? I twitted the entire process from my iPod. All and all not a bad experience. The phone is very cool. As I am catching up on by BLOG’n I am updating to 2.1 of the new OS. We’ll see...

Life can be measured in many ways but after some careful
consideration, for today, it seems life can be measured only by one
real metric. Quality... How good was it? It can be lived in a moment
or wasted on the better part of a century. Only the person living that
life can really answer that question.
How will yours be lived? It's truely one of the only things you have
control over in life. God knows you can't control the duration.

I thought this was a funny image. To look at it seems boring enough, but what I found interesting was the difference in these two women's life's. Its almost a before and after image. I was watching this mom chase her child around on the boardwalk while this other young girl stood there smoking watching. Does that young woman realized that she maybe watching her on future?

Pissing the day away

well, its a hot Friday and I am sit'n at the beach making a blog post from my iPod. I love technology! It should be a great day down here. We'll see.. I'll post more later. I have to say that I am still bumed that I did hear back from any of the models yet. I don't know what to make of it. I still want to do these projects I've been sitting on for 2 years while I was in school and now nothing. It just means I have to try harder...

Thoughts.

I've been trying to fine away to get back into photography. I don't
mean doing my vBLOG or weddings. I mean doing projects. Making images
from a concept. So I put myself out there. I decided to spend some
money and make a project. The funny thing is I've put a out request
for some models and I've heard back from no one. A month ago I was
drowning in homework and models were calling and I was having to turn
them down. Now I can't get a call back.
That's life.
